March Already! [Sundae #158]

Hi ,Well the past four weeks just flew by and I didn't even bother writing a new edition of the newsletter in the meantime. I'm not sure how much I wrote about it here, the past few months have felt like going through ups and downs in terms of mood and motivation. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it before while hoping I haven't wallowed in some kind of self-pity at the same time.In some ways things are objectively good or great, I have a great apartment in central Paris, friends to hang out with regularly, I visited family in the South of France over Christmas and again a couple of weeks ago, skiing in Andorra with my brother and nieces, which was genuinely awesome. To be able to organize these holidays is absolutely one of the reasons I moved back to France.Work and finance wise have been mixed, even objectively not so great. I worked on a couple of interesting strategy projects in January and February, though they were pretty short and with little work in December it doesn't really make up for the time I wasn't working over my move. On the positive side, I managed to write this presentation explaining how I work and some recent examples to share with people. I have time available and happy to discuss any possible strategy questions or projects you might have: https://www.slideshare.net/Willemvdh/ice-cream-for-everyone-playful-strategy I've been alternating meetings with interesting people in Paris (both professional, personal, and mixed), writing, and getting out there to events, making new professional contacts, while at other times I just feel like I don't want to do much, like play video games for hours (I had the amazing or horrible idea to begin playing Stardew Valley and depending on how addicted you might become to a charming Sim City like game of building your own farm and interacting to the various neighbours in the valley I might highly recommend the game or not. It is dangerously time consuming for those who get into it in any case).Fortunately I started going to the swimming pool and just a few minutes of morning exercises, physical exercise does a world of good to getting out of my head or wondering about my mood.In the past few weeks among other things I also went to the Southwest of England for another one of my best friends' 40th birthday parties, saw 1917 at the cinema (good movie, particularly from a technical standpoint, worth seeing on a big screen), went to a indie shoe designers' home showcase, and a home theatre performance of a monologue excerpt of the Memoirs of Saint-Simon (a Duke at the Court of Louis the XIV, stories from the early 18th century - absolutely fascinating).A friend in the US recently passed away, and it was the anniversary of the death of my late nephew Keanu this past weekend too, so I've kind of had some contemplative moments of wondering about life and what I'm up to. Nothing more specific for now aside from actually just writing and sending this, as well as publishing the latest episode of my podcast. I had a conversation with Scott Malthouse, the author of Quill, the letter-writing roleplaying game I published an episode of previously.A little longer update given the four weeks gap!I hope you're all well, stay safe and hopefully away from spreading diseases! What have you been up to in February? Hit reply and tell me about it!CheersWillem
