Family Scam & Family Love [Sundae #139]

Hey ,Happy Father's Day to my dad and all the fathers out there! Check out these fantasy & nightmare dad cartoons from the New Yorker.I hope you had a great week, I had a fantastic week and things are going back to a fairly regular rhythm at the moment, so I have time to write this on the day it's actually meant to be sent.I went to a couple of comedy shows at The Second City now I live just 15 minutes walk away, including one improv musical comedy show, which is quite a special niche - I admire the effort, now am kind of curious to perhaps go to a more experienced musical comedy show, and at the same time I don't think it's entirely my cup of tea. It's a special kind of challenge to come up with funny from scratch, built storylines, AND suddenly make up songs in the process (regardless of one's actual singing ability apparently).I also attended an introduction to stand up comedy workshop at The Second City on Saturday, I really enjoyed it! I'm going to begin writing stories, observations, and potential bits - at least for my own journaling and perhaps prepare a few minutes to try performing at an open mic some time. We'll see!I also edited and published a new episode of the podcast, excellent conversation with game designer and publisher Jason Pitre from Genesis of Legend - we talk about tabletop roleplaying games, what 'indie' roleplaying games are with an analogy from the world of alcohol: Brewing the 'Sour Stouts' of Roleplaying Games with Jason Pitre, Designer & Publisher at Genesis of Legend. As usual, I'd love to hear from you if you enjoy the podcast, please share the newsletter or the podcast with a friend!Enjoy the rest of your weekend!Cheers,Willem

Weekly Combo Two or three flavours, interesting separately, fascinating together
The Curious Cons of the Man Who Wouldn't Die (GQ, 25-30 min read) I had this one saved to read for a couple of weeks and even though it's not really father related I thought it worth sharing for several reasons, besides the fact that this man's story is incredible - both amazing and sad. It's also Pride Month, I happened to talk about Rent the musical yesterday night with friends, both brothers and protagonists of the story are/were gay, HIV/AIDS epidemic and deaths in the 80s/90s feature prominently in the story. It's a family love story in some ways, a tragedy in others, and an unbelievable scam too. Definitely worth the read.
