20190602 Sundae on Monday #137: Gold Coast & Galaxy's Edge [Ice Cream Sundae]

Gold Coast & Galaxy's Edge [Sundae #137]

Hi ,Well this was quite the full on week folks! I'm in the feasting part of the freelancing feast or famine cycle and gorging myself as much as I can. This week is meant working through Memorial Day weekend and the week on four different work projects (one is complete, clients are delighted, so now three!), managing the first phase of my move, and a pretty full social calendar. On the downside I've dropped the ball on the podcast editing and scheduling new conversations, so I'm falling behind there.I vacated my beloved Lakeview East apartment on Wednesday - don't feel sorry for me though, I'm renting a room in Chicago's Gold Coast for June before I fly to Paris in July. I'm writing this with a lovely view of Lake Michigan, nice spot to get work done and very walkable. I went to see Eddie Izzard's new Wunderbar show at the Chicago Theater on Thursday. I'd bought tickets months ago before knowing how busy this week would end up being. My first time seeing him live and he was phenomenal. I highly recommend going to see it! He's just began his international tour, there are plenty of dates in the US and Europe, you should check out if he's going to be coming near you!A friend I know from my Singapore days was also unexpectedly visiting, so we went to see the always excellent Improvised Shakespeare Company at the iO Theater so I got more laughs in before the end of the week.As I said, pretty full on week! I still managed to read a few things for this newsletter, I"m excited about the new Star Wars Galaxy's Edge area of Disneyland.

Best,Willem

Weekly Combo Two or three flavours, interesting separately, fascinating together

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge is Here: The Good, The Bad, The Incredible (io9, 12 min read) I hadn't really followed any of the rumours about Disneyland's new Star Wars themed land, I just knew it was coming up. I've been a fan - admittedly not a super fan, but grew up with and love the movies, read a few of the novels, had the roleplaying game book, the Trivial Pursuit Star Wars edition, etc. I'm a little less of a fan of the new movies but still feeling slight shivers reading about the intricately built Star Wars area, it all sounds pretty amazing.
