20180304 Ice Cream Sundae #120: Genetics & Apocalypse [Ice Cream Sundae]

Genetics & Apocalypse [Ice Cream Sundae]

Hi ,And I'm back after an unexpected two week break! I only have bad excuses, I was skiing and enjoyed it so much - or in the case of 2 weeks ago injured myself and instead of writing this went to see a doctor (nothing too bad fortunately, just over stretched my calf in a bad fall).Still, I had an amazing time skiing in Colorado, I got to visit mind-blowing beautiful Telluride, and then also skied in Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and visited friends in Boulder and Denver before flying back to Chicago. I still have two more short weekend ski trips to look forward to before the end of the season! Apologies for the delay on the newsletter, and if you're a podcast listener again apologies for letting that one fall by the wayside a bit. Time flown by. I'll back to it!CheersWillem

Why Silicon Valley billionaires are prepping for the apocalypse in New Zealand (The Guardian, 34 min read)Another reason (vague excuse) for not reason for not sending the newsletter is I wanted to share this one and kept getting stuck mid-read. It is a pretty long one, and totally worth the time. Absolutely fascinating end of world story, could seem like dystopian near future stories with a dash of Lord of the Rings, and of course no, it's totally happening here and now (with a dash of Lord of the Rings still). Remember last time I mentioned Jim Carrey publicly saying investors should let their Facebook stock go? I suppose it's because supporting the Silicon Valley is also supporting this kind of initiative from the people who own much of it.A biohacker regrets publicly injecting himself with CRISPR (The Atlantic, 8 min read & a 12 min video)
