Empires of Sameness [Ice Cream Sundae]

Hey ,It's still snowing in Chicago! I was gladly experiencing my first mid-west winter snow storm working from the comfort of home, and then walking around in the snowy neighborhood. In case you're not familiar yet, these are some of the best Superbowl ads from last weekend, and the ones the advertising industry are raving about are the Tide ads. Meanwhile, the room where I was in watching the game, the one that got the most reaction from people was Budweiser's water ad.On to today's links, enjoy the rest of your weekend! Thanks,Willem

Weekly Combo Two or three flavours, interesting separately, fascinating together

This video proves we're all taking the same Instagram pictures (The Verge, video, 2min)While not technically surprising if you think about it, given the same pictures of the same worldwide tourist landmarks have been photographed for longer than Instagram has been around, this video captures how much so many people are all doing the same thing, myself included, and posting it with the same hashtags, on this Facebook owned property. It's striking to watch the two minute long video. It's natural for humans to imitate, and that's mainly how we learn as kids. Now we have the same worldwide platforms to share experiences on it's good food for thought to see how it's all becoming the same. It's not wrong by the way, just interesting to see it all edited together. How Facebook is Killing Comedy (Splitsider, 17 min read)

I still type urls of website in the main bar of my browser, and I really enjoy visiting websites beyond Facebook. Do you? I don't have any answers here, though this interview about comedy is a fascinating consequence of the homogenisation of everything on Facebook. It's certainly not the only area being affected. Interestingly this happens around the same time comedian Jim Carrey urges everyone to delete their Facebook account and for stock owners to sell.
