Best of the past week
Hi ,Among the things that caught my attention this week (besides stuff on Twitter and Russia, that I'll let you go off and read by yourself) was the day of action organised for and by many parge Internet / online based businesses in favor of protecting what is called Net Neutrality rules, in short rules in place to ensure people and businesses have equal access to the pipes your Internet runs through. The US FCC is planning on potentially changing those rules, which could benefit the Internet Service Providers and allow them to limit or favor access to some companies, so we might have Internet like cable access, finding yourself (or businesses) having to pay to be able to have access to some websites or quicker access to some websites. It's all better explained in the following articles and the video of the week published on Vimeo. A long feature from John Oliver on the Last Week Tonight comedic news show also lays out the issue. On Wednesday over 2 million letters and comments were made to the FCC about the matter, both the FCC and Internet Service Providers don't seem too amused about it, nor do they sound like they'll be changing much to their plans at the moment. Suffice to say I believe this is a really important matter and that the way the Internet functions should remain regulated in order to ensure we all have the same access. Here's How the Internet's Net Neutrality Day of Action UnfoldedNet Neutrality II with John Oliver on Last Week TonightAjit Pai Not Concerned about Number of Pro-Net Neutrality CommentsAnd a bonus recommendation, if you're interested in finding out more about the way the Internet physically works, I recommend the excellent Tubes: A Journey to the Centre of the Internet, by Andrew Blum.

What's sticky in the communications industry?
Two main things I've noted this week, first Facebook announced officially they have over 2 billion monthly active users. Digest that for a second. 2 billion people in the world using Facebook at least once a month. Meanwhile, WhatsApp and Messenger, also owned by Facebook of course, have around 1.2 billion users. That's a lot of people. No wonder the latest strategy trends seem to be to basically treat Facebook like a TV media channel and pay to advertise to as many people as possible with the new hot buzzword: "Thumb stopping creative".Facebook Crosses 2 Billion Monthly UsersI also spotted these pretty cool ads, nice films though not sure they're exactly to the point of encouraging what they are supposed to, though not bad either. And they are definitely well-written, worth it checking out for that. These Two Well-Written Ads Perfectly Show How Dumb Humans are Getting

What's going on in gaming?
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned the Game Chef competition, and I'm quite happy to say that after successfully procrastinating it, I managed to write and submit a half assed idea and game design at the 11th hour. I'll probably talk about that in more details in my upcoming podcast episode. I might also share the written submission, not sure yet.Meanwhile I highly encourage you to check out the new Cards Against Humanity for Her Edition, that you just can't miss. Seriously, have a browse at the site. Worth it if you haven't seen it shared around yet.
