Best of the past week
Hi ,Better late than never! Here's my roundup of a few things I've been paying attention to this past week while running around catching up from my previous weekend in LA and on to another trip to Denver these past few days. I'm happily back in Chicago now.Rather than sweeping our failures under the rug, what if we celebrated and learned from them? I love this video and idea coming from Samuel West in Sweden, who is curating the Museum of Failure, particularly dedicated to failed gadgets and technology.Sweden's Museum of Failures Pays Homage to Products that Flopped

The Cannes Lions Festival of advertising and creativity has started, the biggest advertising award event of the year. For the occasion here is Adweek's selection of 25 advertising campaign they believe will win awards this year:25 Brilliant Ad Campaigns that will win Lions at Cannes this yearTough call given there are some great ones there, if you don't want to watch 24 or 25 videos, my favourite might be "Doors of Thrones" for Tourism Ireland, particularly for the beautiful craft involved in the execution.

What's sticky in the communications industry?
As mentioned above, the Cannes Lions advertising festival is on and there are parties and events galore down at La Croisette. This year Snapchat is making a big splash with their own ferris wheel.Snapchat is Dominating the Cannes Skyline with a Ferris Wheel at the Festival's Entrance

What's going on in gaming?
One of the 25 ad campaigns in the video link above is for a Gatorade ad campaign, they created Snapchat's first in-app advertising video game, recreating Serena Williams' whole career. The game features 22 levels, one for each Grand Slam in her career. It's from last year though I'd missed it at the time.Gatorade's Snapchat Game lets you relive all of Serena Williams Big Wins

What else is interesting this week?
Obviously the other big news this past week is Amazon buying their way into the food business with Whole Foods and the immediate reactions. Amazon announced acquiring the fancy and mostly organic food store chain for $13.7 billion. The same day Amazon's market cap increased by $15 billion, basically paying for the acquisition.Groceries are the last hurdle in Amazon's quest to sell you everythingAnd a last one I noticed this weekend, slightly annoyed because I couldn't find how to call my dad for father's day on Skype anymore since they redesigned it. I'm not extremely convinced by all these wavy lines. Skype hopes its redesign takes it beyond video chatThat's all for this late edition, thank you for reading!Best,Willem
