Best of the past week

Hey ,

I finally passed my drivers license! It's been quite the journey since I started learning to drive in the South of France in December 2014. I'd never taken care of learning to drive, having moved to the centre of Paris when I was teenager and then mostly living in large cities I never took care of it, the years just flew by. I failed the driving exam twice in France, then again took lessons in London last year and failed the test before moving to the US and now I finally passed. I apparently just needed to go somewhere the test is vastly easier! I'm glad it's done and dusted, I feel like a proper grown up now!And now I'm all grown up I can happily share my favourite this week is this video analysing why the animation in the classic "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" still holds so well in blending animation with real life actors and sets. It's seven minutes long and on the back of it I thought of a couple of potentially interesting questions to look into:- If you thought of yourself as an animated character, what can you notice about the way that character interacts with it environment? - Where and/or how could you "bump the lamp" in your life?Who Framed Roger Rabbit - The 3 Rules of Living Animation

I enjoy keeping up with Scott Galloway's insightful weekly video updates about the tech industry, consumer trends advertising, branding and marketing. This week he particularly talks about voice control, worth checking out and having on your radar if you don't already watch him I recommend subscribing to his channel.Scott Galloway: The Technology Kills Brands.

What's sticky in the communications industry?

McDonald's in Brazil basically decked out a sort of food truck as an advertising stunt, dubbing it a drive thru that drives to you. It seems to be doing a good job doubling up as a kind of novelty mobile billboard as well and at least it the way the video is shot seems to be attracting attention.McDonald's Built a Drive Thru that Ludicrously Drives to You.

What's going on in gaming?

The first tabletop roleplaying game I ever got, ordered for a Christmas a long time ago if memory serves, was called TORG. A pretty intense game world that presented an exciting premise mixing in pretty much alll fiction genres you could imagine in one setting. Here's the situation: Lords from other dimensions have invaded Earth and impose their version of reality over the lands they have invaded in order to harvest Earth's power of possibilities. Most of North America is now "The Living Land" a jungle filled with dinosaur like creatures, Egypt and neighbouring countries became "The Nile Empire" a 1920s Pulp hero kind of set, France becomes overrun by the technologically advanced theocracy of the "Cyber Papacy", etc.Players interpret "Storm Knights", heroes  resisting the invasion of Earth who have the power to travel from one reality to another, across the continual storms marking the boundaries between these strange realms and the rest of the planet. It's an ambitious game universe that has everything from fantasy, cyberpunk, pulp adventures, ninjas, horror, etc.TORG has been revamped and rewritten for the 21st century, currently being financed on Kickstarter. And if you're interested in finding out more I recommend checking out the live play on the One Shot Podcast.TORG Eternity on Kickstarter.

What else is interesting this week?

Last but not least, this physics analysis of the way a Star Wars rebel starship rammed an Imperial Star Destroyer in the final battle of the movie Rogue One was pretty amusing. The Physics of Ramming an Imperial Star Destroyer, Explained. That's about all for this week, enjoy the rest of your weekend! As usual, please remember to forward the newsletter to a friend if you enjoy it!CheersWillem
