Best of the past week
Hi ,
I hope your weekend is going well! I've had a good week back in Chicago, job interviews, some admin at the DMV and I had a lovely sunny Saturday by the beach on Lake Michigan Saturday with new friends.I caught up with this long feature in the New Yorker that I didn't have time to read last week about the gig economy. It's a well written and researched article about the people who work many different full or side jobs for companies like Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, Taskrabbit; the new economies those giants are creating; what it might mean from a legal and political standpoint for the present and future of employment. Definitely worth a read.Is the Gig Economy Working?

While browsing around I came across this sweet two minute long video, a mix of the author's note to self from a short summer relationship mixed in with some unused footage he had from a completely different project. Having been thinking about love and relationships lately, it struck a chord. Definitely worth two minutes of your time. Note to Self, by Alex Bohs

What's sticky in the communications industry?
Netflix is working on the promotional campaign for the upcoming season of their TV series House of Cards and hired Pete Souza, President Obama's real photographer, to take "candid / real life" photos of fictional president Frank Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey) around Washington DC. I like how their mixing real and fictional world to generate press and media interest for the TV series.Netflix Got Pete Souza, Obama's Photographer, to Shoot "Candids" of France Underwood.

What's going on in gaming?
Meanwhile, and this could have featured in the previous section, Cards Against Humanity posted a full page job ad in the Chicago Tribune looking for a new CEO for the card game business notorious for silly and vocal stunts. This time they're basically directly targeting President Obama by looking for "experience hunting terrorist masterminds", or "Strongly prefer the first black editor of Harvard Law Review".

What else is interesting this week?
The new season of Netflix Original Series Master of None is out. I've watched half of it so far and finding it as excellent as the first, if somewhat slightly melancholic at times for me, being so on the nose about being single in my thirties, like with that episode portraying a string of strange and sort of repetitive first dates through dating apps.A friend pointed me out to this great interview of the show's creator, writer and lead protagonist Aziz Ansari, also stand up comedian and previously acting in sitcom Parks & Recreation.Aziz Ansari: "I try to write political material... then get tired of it"Last but not least, to finish on a bit of whimsy check out the winners of the first annual "Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards".That's about it for the Sundae, enjoy the rest of your weekend! Remember to forward this on to a friend and tell them to subscribe if you enjoyed the newsletter!Best,Willem
