Happy Mondae [Ice Cream Sundae]

Best of the past week

Hi , My apologies for this Sundae edition being late and sent out on a Monday!I had a fantastic and pretty full week last week, starting with excellent news in that I found a place to sublet for the summer in Chicago in a neighbourhood I love near the lake and plenty of entertainment. It'll be a great place to get work done from this summer. This past weekend I did the Landmark Forum again - the last time I'd done this course was back in 2006. I mentioned participating in growth & development training courses with Landmark in this newsletter previously. For those who don't know about it, in short it's a course I love and in which people participating learn and practice a methodology to produce breakthrough results in their lives, whatever is it they're up to. I got a lot a of value in it for myself - more so than I thought as I'd done it before. We keep growing in our lives and the last time I'd done it was 11 years ago, so while I certainly didn't need it as such, lots has happened since then and there were opportunities for me to look back at different areas of my life in a new way. I'm not going to go on about this in this email, though would be glad to tell you more in person, just send a reply if you'd like and let's talk about it directly. You're online now and just like about any topic on the Internet, you can go and find all sorts of differing views about these courses, both positive and negative. I'd encourage you to experience it for yourself if you're interested in finding out. It's an experience and while it's easy-ish to describe in words it doesn't do the experience justice in my opinion. On the more controversial side you'll find allegations about Landmark being a cult. It's not. I already wrote this piece about a TV show aired in France while I worked for Landmark in a previous Sundae newsletter, again if you're interested or curious I'm happy to answer questions you may have about it.Peanut Butter Cookies and the Sad Time I was on TV.There are plenty of positive stuff about Landmark too. A bunch of employees from lululemon and Panda Express were there as those companies and others like Space X offer the course to employees as part of their training. I was with people this weekend have just amazing results - again, if you're interested I'm happy to tell you more some time.

On with the yoga theme of sorts, a couple of weeks ago I watched perhaps one of the best / worst movies out there. Director Kevin Smith's Yoga Hosers. It's on Netflix in the US. Warning, it's truly amazingly good and bad at the same time I still can't make up my mind about it. I thought it was funny and loved it - that might be revealing much about me.Yoga Hosers trailer

What's sticky in the communications industry?

A little more of a business update though it definitely fits in observations about brand building I have read in a book recently. As I briefly looked around lululemon, I found out the fascinating and controversial founder of the company, Chip Wilson, is no longer CEO since 2013 or on the board of directors since 2015.He now writes and comments about his vision for the company on an independent website, Elevate lululemon. One of his latest posts analyses some of the company's decisions and it's an interesting read on short term gains versus long term vision of a company and brand:Sometimes it's worse to be right than wrong. This was following the founder buying ad space to state lululemon should be acquiring sports apparel company Under Armour. I don't know enough of the background to have formed an opinion about the company results or how they compare with other economic factors though it sounds like a worthwhile comment for the founder to say that a few quarters of positive growth don't offset several years of share cost overall company value decreasing.lululemon founder Chip Wilson interview on border tax, lululemon results and Under Armour.

What's going on in gaming?

Last week I found out about this strategy board game called Scythe. It sounds amazing and is getting airships in a new expansion. While I'd love to try the game some time, I'm particularly mentioning this because the game's theme and visual style was first inspired by the pieces of concept artist Jakub Rozalski, based in Germany. Many of his beautiful illustrations envision an alternate 1920s world featuring giant robots.Have a look:

What else is interesting this week?

My father pointed me to The Museum of Ice Cream, a temporary art installation in LA open all of May if you're in the area, looks like fun!Welcome to the Museum of Ice Cream (1 minute video)I'm going to contact them for my podcast, which by the way I'm working on getting back on track. I recorded an update last week I'm working on editing. Perhaps a little longer than previous weeks - probably because I'm trying to get it out quickly. Thanks for reading. If you enjoyed it, please go ahead and share the email with your friends so they can subscribe too, have a great week!Cheers,Willem
