Best of the past week

Hi , This week we're all about the humble chicken! It was a bit of a happy coincidence, browsing around from this great story my brother shared with me about the history of the bouillon cube. That said I'm glad we have a general theme this week. Kung Fu ChickenFor any food enthusiasts, this is a fantastic story of someone who comes across this recipe in an old Chinese cook book featuring an esoteric old diagram explaining how to cook nine different dishes from a single chicken. The author, intrigued, jumps into that rabbit hole as it were.

The other major and latest chicken craze in the U.S. is Nashville Hot Chicken, originally created by Prince's Hot Chicken Shack in Nashville in the 1930s, not this style of apparently very hot and spicy deep fried chicken is being celebrated and increasingly popular. This video takes you back to the origins. The Spiciest Hot Chicken is at Prince's in Nashville

What's sticky in the communications industry?

OK this admittedly doesn't have much to do with chickens but I just have to mention Pepsis new ad because it's a huge fiasco that managed to unite the whole internet in disagreement for this amazingly distasteful ad, in which beautifully dressed young people apparently marching for peace give a cop a Pepsi and then all is well."Pepsi's Kendall Jenner ad was so awful it did the impossible: unite the Internet"Meanwhile on the chicken side of marketing communications, Burger King's famous Subservient Chicken online campaign immediately comes to mind. In order to promote their chicken sandwiches, they launched a website where a dude in a chicken suit seemed to perform whatever people visiting the site where asking. It blew people's minds at the time and made TV news. The link features a video explaining the whole thing in more detail. Sort of. Also worth checking out if you wonder what became of the Subservient Chicken once the Internet got bored of it / him /  her. Arguably not as good as the original campaign though not as bad as the latest Pepsi ad.

They're at the 5th edtion of the game now and you can find them in your app store or on Steam. Enjoy!

What else is interesting this week?

This week we finish with a long read, going along to walk around Nashville and discover what this craze for Hot Chicken is all about with Danny Chau of The Ringer. We follow the author as he tries three different hot chicken joints and comments about the origins of the dish, and questioning how or why it has suddenly become so popular in recent years. Some of the answers seem to point towards race, gentrification and TV chef celebrities as much or more as flavour."The Burning Desire for Hot Chicken: Three days, three Nashville restaurants, and three revelations about why we love what hurts"That's about for this week folks, I hope you enjoyed checking out some of this out. Please don't forget to forward this to friends if you enjoyed it! On a different topic before I leave you to the rest of your weekend, I am currently working on redesigning my website and better defining my service offering as a marketing & brand strategy consultant.
