20170319 Ice Cream Sundae #76: Wednesday Night

Wednesday Night [Ice Cream Sundae]

  Cherry

Best of the past week

Hey , This week I'm back in Los Angeles for the last weekend of the Partnership Explorations course I've been doing, and then I'll be off to San Francisco and the California Zephyr train to Chicago, that I've mentioned in a previous Sundae.Since I got back from the Rockies I started contemplating the idea of living in the mountains, I'm quite seriously considering it and looking into how it might work. I've been looking at all the season pass deals for next year. I'm very close to buying one. Stay tuned. In the meantime, check out this fantastic story I came across on Facebook thanks to Ian Flett, that's where you'll find out about the idea of "Wednesday Night".The biggest threat facing middle-aged men isn't smoking or obesity. It's loneliness.

Now I feel totally justified for spending time keeping in touch with and organising activities with friends, I'll just to somehow keep that up the day I have a wife and children. That's probably when Wednesday Night will come in handy.

Whipped Cream

I was going to give this distinction to the new Pixar movie trailer Coco, but then just discovered this extraordinary video thanks to my friend Seb in France.I bring you the Chicken Attack music video from Japan. You won't regret it. It's pretty amazing.Go chicken go!

Caramel Fudge

What's sticky in the communications industry?

I enjoyed

, the story of a guy starting to eat well and cook healthily for love. It's all visual, no need to understand French.

50 years later in fictional universe time, Heinz approves and runs the ad campaign pitched by Mad Men character Don Draper. The idea was passed by the Heinz client in the TV show, but the real guys have now reconsidered and took on the idea of not showing any of the products, and instead displaying photography of foods that (could?) go well with ketchup and the simple line:

Last but not least,

The campaign plays on puns about hipsters, heavy traffic or living in the fast lane. I like it.

What else is interesting this week?

This piece from chef and TV show host Anthony Bourdain about his financial issues in the past (it's a promotion for a wealth management website) is really excellent, I recommend it.Apparently he didn't have a savings account until after his 44th birthday. This is from the piece:"When Kitchen Confidential was published, I hadn’t filed taxes in about 10 years. I was seriously behind on rent. It had been about a decade since I’d communicated with American Express in a timely manner. In my daily life, the goal was to muffle the anxiety that I’d feel as I tried to drift off to sleep knowing that, at any point, what little money I had in my bank account could be garnished by the IRS or the credit card company. The landlord could kick me to the curb. That was my reality for many years."I hadn't listened to many podcasts lately and I'm catching up on a few, including this great conversation with Anthony Bourdain and Helen Hollyman who hosts Vice's Munchies podcast over dirty martinis.Lastly, This American Life rebroadcast this episode called Transformers, and I promise you'll have a beaming smile on your face just listening to the first 3 minutes of the prologue. I know I did. This first introduction story involves a girl and roller coasters... It's priceless. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, please share with a friend if you enjoyed reading!Cheers,Willem
