Best of the past week

Hi , This is going to be a quick one, I've been busy catching up with a bunch of stuff and recovering from jetlag of another quick weekend in Los Angeles.I'm also in a training weekend right now, if you know me or have been following the newsletter, you know I participate in courses with Landmark Worldwide, and used to work for the training and development company too.The person leading the training this weekend is David Cunningham, who also happens to be a spokesperson for Landmark and was interviewed on BBC Radio 2 this past Thursday in the context of a segment about personal development in the Jo Good show, followed by several people who called to talk about their experience of participating in Landmark courses.I think it was definitely worth checking out and they selected a good spread of people with different opinions and results or value they got out of those courses - and I think David did a great job too. His interview starts about an hour in the show (it was 2pm on the live show).

I watched a few movies on the flights in and out of LA and will particularly highlight a couple that stood out.The latest Werner Horzog documentary about the Internet and technology was just fantastic, I loved it. Lo and Behold: Reveried of a Connected World (trailer).I'll give a bonus to Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople, a sweet flick with a Sam Neill; a rebellious youth at risk and an older man escape the police on a manhunt in the New Zealand bush. Definitely worth a watch. I recommend it.

What's sticky in the communications industry?

I attended an excellent evening last Tuesday thanks to Open Strate.gy, I'm even kind of embarrassed to say I didn't even know they were around. At the event we had great presentations from fellow strategists Mighty Jungle Mark Pollard and Saatchi & Saatchi Chief Strategy Officer Richard Huntington (whom I also talked to for my podcast). They are based in New York and London so far, have a large Slack group online and organise events and discussions with interesting speakers, usually strategists in the creative communications industry.Have a look, they have a weekly email newsletter, Slack group as mentioned, regular live events, etc - I'm going to see about having a chat with them for my podcast soon.

What else is interesting this week?

As previously mentioned, I've been working on getting the Ice Cream for Everyone podcast back on track and we have a great new episode out this week! I had an excellent conversation with my friend Patrick Searle based in Jakarta, Indonesia to talk aobut his career and the company he founded in Jakarta: GetCRAFT - a professional content creation market place, connecting brands or agencies with quality journalists, videographers, photographers or other kinds of creators in Southeast Asia. Please check it out and I hope you enjoy it!This week fellow New-York based strategist Mark Pollard took some time for us to have a conversation for the podcast, so that will be coming up in the next coupl of weeks or so.I hope you enjoyed this quick session, please forward to a friend if you've enjoyed it!Best,Willem
