Short Thanksgiving Edition [Ice Cream Sundae]

Best of the past week
Hi , I'm going to make this edition short rather than ramble on for once. I completely forgot to wish you a happy Thanksgiving last week so I mention it now. I hope those celebrating had a great time. I interestingly noticed the Black Friday sales tradition haas become a thing in the UK, the last time I lived in London I don't remember it had started yet.I looked into the origins of the phrase "Black Friday" and apparently the first reference came from a newspaper article in the early 1950s. Many employees at the time tended to call in sick to have an extra day off after Thanksgiving, that article compared that "Friday-itis epidemic" to the Black Plague, and so called it Black Friday. Then in the 1960s cops in Philadephia started calling it Black Friday because of the hordes of shopping crowds they had to manage.Last but not least, another popular explanation is that this is the first day of the year many retailers in the U.S. go in the black in terms of their accounts, they start earning money from now until Christmas.

What else is interesting this week?
I published a new episode for the podcast, I had a really fun conversation with Maurice Cherry, who hosts the award winning Revision Path design podcast. His show features conversations with some of the best Black designers and web developers from around the world. Check it out! Finally, always up to interesting shenanigans for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, this year the folks at Cards Against Humanity raised money to dig a huge hole in the ground. They called the project Holiday Hole, you can watch the live hole digging feed on the website. $10 gets you 5 seconds worth of hole digging. They raised over $83,000 so far. That's it for this week folks, have a great Sunday!Best,WillemPS: My friend James just sent me this hilarious and geeky Star Wars "Bad Lip Reading" music video. Definitely worth it if you're even only a tiny bit appreciative of Star Wars and absurd humour.
