In the news
Big election news today. I'm not sure quite what to write this just yet, I'll get back to it in the next newsletter. In the meantime, while I'm certainly not happy with the result it is a very interesting one - like in the [probably not so] Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times."This year I vaguely started contemplating moving back to the U.S. at some point. This morning I thought, maybe not a good time; then a second thought came up: maybe it's exactly the right kind of time to some kind of positive difference there. Perhaps somehow contribute to reunite a pretty divided country. I believe many people who voted for Donald Trump want some kind of change over anything representing the existing political establishment. Both halves of voters are afraid and angry, following news and opinions they mostly agree with thanks to our filtered social media feeds. This video my friend Adam shared earlier of Van Jones visiting Trump supporters to talk with them - actually have a dialogue even if they disagree on some points. That kind of dialogue has been sorely missing in this campaign. I'd likely say it's Trump's fault, but then again it's entirely possible others have a different view. It's worth watching. The part when a woman is in tears over a previous friend who insulted her capabilities as a mother because of her political beliefs is exactly the kind of things that needs to stop.I'll finish with this piece in the New Yorker and by writing that the whole thing is an extraordinary triumph of demagoguery.

What's sticky in the communications industry?
I haven't followed much of this given I was on holidays. I'm catching up with work and will have news there in the next edition. In the meantime I believe the brand Trump just increased in value - a little. It's the most precious thing he has built, people thought it was recently faltering and it probably compounded or even skyrocketed instead. I almost forgot about the Toblerone news, the brand is having some trouble with their fans after removing half the chocolate triangles in the bars.

What's going on in gaming?
The potential for fantastically rude and wrong jokes is there in this three frame cartoon party game by the creators of the popular webcomic
, but most rounds the jokes fell flat. It seemed players might have to be much luckier than in
to get funny combinations. Maybe it was an unlucky draw, I'll have to try it again.
