Ice Cream Summer Sounds [Ice Cream Sundae]

Best of the past week

Hey , Let's place this Sundae under a "better late then never" theme as I'm accumulating a few of those this week.To start with on Monday I realised it was the last week for me to send in a voters registration form and absentee ballot request to be able to vote in the State of New York for the upcoming United States presidential election. I was born in the U.S. of America and thus I'm a citizen, though my family moved to France when I was 6 years old. I never particularly identified with being American and never bothered registering to vote until this week. I'm still not certain my forms were processed though, I had an email a couple of days about some issue with the forms. I replied to solve it but haven't had confirmation everything is in order. I'll call them to sort it out.On other news the Ice Cream for Everyone Podcast is finally back after a way too long summer break! Check out the podcast for a summer report and some audio tests with my Zoom H5 digital recorder while on holidays in Chicago. I have more episodes coming up very soon too, as I kept recording conversations with guests through September.

In the news

As mentioned, I'm hoping to vote in the U.S. elections so I started reading a little more about it. Not that I want to, and it's difficult to avoid anyhow.Regarding Trump, I recommend this article in the NY Times: "Donald Trump's Sad, Lonely Life."For some negative views of Hillary Clinton from an otherwise fervent Democrat with a blog called The Independent Thinker, these two posts are interesting, though pretty disappointing too.I also listened to this episode of the Freakonomics Podcast about Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and the Libertiarian movement.I haven't read too much about the Green Party candidate Gill Stein just yet.I feel a lot of my voting history so far (in France) has been about choosing the lesser of two evils or voting against someone rather than for someone. Whatever happens it feels similar here again, sadly.

What's sticky in the communications industry?

I had seen this infographic before though it has been updated for 2016. It displays all the largest consumer brands in the world and the ten companies that control them all. Visually quite impressive.Otherwise to keep in the U.S. elections sub-theme I came across Hillary Clinton's pretty nifty site showing off what she and Donald Trump were up to at the same time. It's telling. Smart move.

What's going on in gaming?

This isn't exactly gaming but I came across this fascinating and hugely ambitious

and attracted tens of thousands of people. The props they created are really impressive and they organised a special evening for disabled children to enjoy what seemed to be an amazing show. They are looking for funds to renew the convention for another year and seem to be up to interesting.

What else is interesting this week?

I'm just back from a few lovely days spent with family and friends in the South of France. Always a pleasure catching up with my little nieces!

I had a fantastic few days spent around my sister's vineyard, sampled delicious wines and awesome food. That’s about it for this week! Please share with a friend if you enjoy reading! Best,Willem
