Fresh Start for my Hair [Ice Cream Sundae]

Best of the past week

Hi , Once again this week has gone by in a speedy blur and I find myself writing this late and immediately thinking: "Damn, I haven't collected the news and links I was planning during the week!"That said no need for panic, I have a towel handy, stuff happened this week and I'm sure the 24 tabs I have open in my browser I should be able to find enough interesting things to populate this week's Sundae newsletter. The most interesting thing this past week in my little world is perhaps that I went to the barbers and got my hair shaved off - I'd never done that before! My brother does it regularly to give a fresh start to his hair of something, and I'd been thinking about that as something daring. I'd occasionally think it sounded like a fun idea and this week I went ahead and did it. Not only is it not as scary as I thought, many people told me I looked good.Apologies for the crappy photo quality, I'll be upgrading soon.

In the news

More and more ongoing and increasingly ridiculous U.S. elections scandals, the UK going ahead with Brexit, Damages caused in the U.S. due to Hurricane Matthew - these are a few of the main headlines I've come across briefly scanning the news. Paying too much attention to the news is becoming depressing. I'm sure I'll get back into properly soon enough but right now I'm enjoying the break from most of it.I went a bit further afield for news this week, all the way to Madison, Wisconsin where according these local news anchors "creepy clowns" are making regular appearances to scare people and post photos on social media. Real professional clowns like here featured Apple Annie are taking a stand and announcing they are not in fact creepy and don't represent the wider clown community.I personally think all clowns are creepy but hey, that's just me.It's fascinating to notice how this type of local clown news is arguably more relevant than the U.S. election creepy clowning going on.

What's going on in gaming?

I'm trying to behave and stop spending so much money on Kickstarter projects, though since the popular crowdfunding site implemented the ability to follow my favourite creators it's getting even more difficult - and I could be wrong but I think I'm getting more updates from creators, such as in this case. Several of my favourite game designers backed a new tabletop board game project. When the professionals get excited about a new game project I tend to pay attention. This new game called Illimat was created by the indie folk rock band The Decemberists and sounds like a fun idea.Back in 2011, they shot a music video for one of their songs and asked a designer to create a board for a fictional game they're seen to be playing. Fast forward to today and the band members got into regularly playing board games together during their tours and thought about transforming their fake board into a real board game. They hired a couple of game designer friends and voilà: Illimat was born. It's a simple board game for 2 to 4 players and sounds pretty intriguing. Apparently it's easy for anyone to learn and pick up, and has some raving reviews from game design professionals. I haven't made up my mind about getting it. Of course I want to though I should really spend more time playing all the games I have at the moment and stop financing new ones for a while...

What else is interesting this week?

Let's see, what else has been going on...Ah, well if you followed last week's Sundae you might have heard of Willem's Wonder Woman project? The results have been pretty overwhelming and surprising; from hundreds of friends of friends sharing it on Facebook and Twitter, many people telling me it's put a smile on their face or made them laugh, old friends getting back in touch with me, people telling me it's given them renewed inspiration to go look for their own romantic partners, couples telling me it's inspired them to spice up their love life, and more. From this perspective and that was one of the main objectives, it is wildly successful. The activity spiked for a few days and for now I can say over 2,500 people visited the website just from sharing a couple of times on Facebook and Twitter. The response has been fun and brilliant, so much so that I've decided to already put the "official search" on hold for now. Nothing bad happened, on the contrary. That’s about it for this week, enjoy the rest of your weekend. Please share with a friend if you enjoy reading! CheersWillem
