20160903 Ice Cream Sundae #49: The Great Wing Hunt

The Buffalo Wing Belt [Ice Cream Sundae]

Hey , We had the end of Summer Bank Holiday in the UK last weekend and I’m in Toronto for Labour Day weekend. Suffice to say this has been a short week with little time to write this Sundae. I’m working on a few ideas for an updated format; unfortunately I’m not ready to share that just yet. I went for a dip in the river by Lumb Falls in West Yorkshire. I had cream tea for the first time in the lovely town of Haworth. I displayed my ignorance of all things British to the friends I was with because I was surprised to figure out that “Cream Tea†is not in fact a special kind of tea with cream in it. It means that the tea (which can whatever kind of tea or even coffee you wish) comes with a scone, butter, thick cream and jam. I guess I could have put the cream in my tea anyways, but my friends recommended against this idea. Plus I wouldn’t have had any left to spread on the scone with jam, which turned out to be delicious. We drove on to Blackpool beach for a beautiful sunset. I’d wanted to visit for a while and it was amazing. It’s a strange and fascinating holiday place, it feels somewhat stuck in time and forlorn on the one hand, while alive and well with people having fun on the other. I was slightly disappointed I didn’t ride The Big One, the highest roller coaster in the UK. I’ll have to go back for that. It was an experience to be had and something to be learned about England in the contrast between the quaint West Yorkshire countryside Haworth and Blackpool beach in the same day. Very different people, sights and atmospheres in either place yet both quintessentially British. Monday was a lovely sunny day in Manchester, we had a wander in the Science Museum and saw the very first steam train ever in operation, back in 1830. I had quite a bit of work on…  I made it into the communications industry news, announcing my new job. â€¦and I finally watched The Great Wing Hunt documentary that had been on my radar for a good while. It’s a lot of fun to watch, I highly recommend it. I love Buffalo Wings. Did you know the original recipe was created Upstate New York in the town of Buffalo at the Anchor Bar in 1964? Some say it is the only truly original American food.   Thanks for reading, enjoy the rest of your weekend! If you liked the newsletter, please share it with a friend. Best,Willem
