Sundae Summer: 1st pitch win [Ice Cream Sundae]

Hi , Summer is flying by fast! I need to get ready for September and figure out what I’m doing properly for the podcast and the Sundae newsletter. I’ve just started making a few contacts and preparing recording appointments for the podcast so far, this newsletter need a little more love now. I’ve been distracted with the new job but that’s not really new news, it’s at least the third week I mention it. On the plus side the day job distraction is producing results, we’ve just won our first piece of new business – as in with me involved from the start, so I’m taking a little of the credit. An exciting new project I can’t really write about just yet. I’m writing this sitting in a bar near the airport in Los Angeles. I quickly mentioned the course I’m participating in this year; the second weekend is about to start. I just spent about twelve hours in a plane reading French philosophy and I still haven’t finished The Order of Things (that I’ve already mentioned I’m reading). I’m flying back to London as soon as the course completes on Sunday evening. This one comes high on my list of silly trips, though still doesn’t top the round the world in two weeks I did ten years ago. Funny enough I transited via Las Vegas and saw the Stratosphere Tower where I stayed ten years ago for a crazy 48 hours. Stories I’ve written about a while back and probably worth revisiting some time soon. Other news this week: This is particularly for those subscribers who don’t necessarily follow advertising world news; Kevin Robert who used to be the CEO of advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi (where I used to work) and more recently appointed something like Global Coach of the Publicis Groupe was put on immediate leave of absence following an interview with Business Insider where he basically announced that the gender diversity conversation in advertising was over. A few people disagreed. The advertising & marketing related corner of the Internet burned for a short while. He also basically insulted Cindy Gallop and that created some more of a stir. Not one to miss shamelessly promoting myself to my own subscribers, don’t forget you can hear a short edit of Cindy Gallop’s interview from my podcast on the recently published demo clip. Kevin Roberts announced he was resigning over the whole story, though my cynical mind thought fascinating all that meant was bringing his already announced retirement dates like 8 months forward. He was already leaving anyway. Were I a conspiracy theorist I’d say he did it to test the waters about gender diversity and make the Publicis Groupe look good (better?). Fortunately I’m no conspiracy theorist and I think that kind of idea is ludicrous. Do not spread it under any means. In more fun news for my gaming friends I just received my lovely black leather embossed 7th Sea Pirate Edition. I haven’t read it yet but the book is gorgeous, on time for GenCon this weekend! I have to say; John Wick (Also on my podcast!) has a seriously professional operation going on following his kickass Kickstarter earlier this year. I’m still waiting for tabletop roleplaying books I pledged and paid money for via Kickstarter over a year ago. It’s a good reminder I write and talk about gaming a lot but haven’t actually played a roleplaying game session in a few months. Good time to get back into it. Er… Soon, that is. That’s about it for this Sundae, enjoy the rest of the weekend! Best,Willem
