Sundae Summer: Tina the T-Rex [Ice Cream Sundae]

Hi , I don’t have that much to report this week as I’ve spent a lot of time still getting into the new job for much of last week, and some of my free time was dedicated to dating – maybe a topic for another time (or not at all, we'll see). A fun project from the studio I now work for got some good press, +rehabstudio came up with the idea and built Tina the T-Rex chatbot to teach people about dinosaurs via Facebook Messenger. Of the various people I met during the Podcast Movement Conference and emailed my podcast demo to, the guys from Wondery replied to say they really enjoyed it, which was nice to hear and encouraging. Of the various podcasts I listened to in the past week while walking to work, here are a few episodes I particularly recommend: The Washington Post recently launched a new podcast called Presidential, I met the host at Podcast Movement and finally got round to listening to the first episode about George Washington. Each episode focuses on one U.S. President, in chronological order, to look at who they were, their leadership style, policies, influence, etc. Fascinating stuff. The new season of NPR Invisibilia started and I finally listened to the first episode, The New Norm. The episode features stories exploring social and emotional norms. It ended up being of particular interest because it mentions Werner Erhardt and his seminar trainings from the 70s / 80s – I think I’ve mentioned this before. I haven’t done those though I’ve done courses that those have kind of evolved into. The oil rig safety training & coaching the story covers is kind of strange yet really interesting. Lastly, I highly recommend this episode of the Freakonomics Podcast questioning whether the Internet’s openness is ruined. They talk with several people pondering how the internet experience is almost controlled by a few large players like Google, Facebook, or Twitter; the importance of educating people about how the Internet works; and wondering how close we already are to a dystopian Brave New World type of curated experience. That’s about it for this week, have fun and see you next week! CheersWillem
