Sundae Summer: Rehab [Ice Cream Sundae]

Hi , Look at that, the newsletter is late again! It’s summer weather in London. I originally planned to write this blurb over the weekend, looked out the window, stayed in for a tiny bit longer to work on my short podcast season 01 demo clip editing and then went out to seek the sun, abandoning the Sundae, as it were. I’m almost finished with the demo clip, which I’ll be sending to a few people in podcasting and radio I went during the Podcast Movement conference, and also use it to introduce the podcast to future potential guests I will contact. In other important news, I seemed to have signed up to some kind of employment rehabilitation programme: I am the new head of strategy for +rehab studio, a London and Belfast based creative technology company. The studio often works with Google on innovation projects. For example a couple of past projects included “Own the Ice†that allowed the audience to play a video game on a Jumbotron from their phones during a game ice hockey, and “Blank†in partnership with Disney to promote a short film and celebrate Valentine’s Day. While I’m getting my head around the new role and responsibilities, it’s probably a good thing I’m taking a summer break from the podcast and the newsletter. I’m considering different kinds of formats for September onwards, for example I might alternate and publish podcast episodes one week and write a Sundae newsletter the following. I’m not sure yet, I am thinking of different ideas, if you have any suggestions please keep in touch. It’s my birthday tomorrow. I’m turning 37. That’s about it for this week. I’ll finish off with a few suggestions of things I’ve read and listened in the past week I just listened to this inspiring and very moving story of a rabbi who moves to Nebraska and is face with the KKK on the Snap Judgement podcast. It’s about 10 minutes long and entirely worth it. I’ve been horrified by the attack in Nice on Bastille Day while also afraid I’m starting of all those horrific events like business as usual, becoming more numb to them, whether shootings in the US, terrorist attacks of attempted coup in Turkey. It’s good to listen to this kind of story and remind myself there are positive actions to be taken, perhaps communicating against that kind of ignorance and bigotry happens one person at a time. It has been doing the rounds for the past few days, you may have come across Tim Malbon’s excellent article “I’m having a ‘Digital Transformation’ right now†this fascinatingly came on the back of a few people asking me either how much experience I had in digital transformation and another friend asking what digital transformation actually was. If you’re wondering, Tim has an interesting and entertaining approach to it. Last but least, I haven’t escaped the PokemonGO worldwide craze. I haven’t downloaded the game but probably won’t resist much longer. In the name of market research and understanding people behaviour, of course. This interesting article explains why so many users choose #TeamMystic in the game, presents a few statistics about PokemonGO players and also how retailers sell other items to people The world is a funny place. I’m not too sure what to think of it these days. Be safe. Don’t Pokemon and drive, ok? All the best,Willem
